TechGearLab scored 13 mops and put it first (82), saying it outperformed the other models while being one of the least expensive; Bob Vila tested seven and found it one of the easiest to use, with a 9/10 in its full review [src2, src5, src6]. Yahoo's tester, who tried 10 mops for a 2026 guide, names it the best for large areas [src7]. Its sibling, the Bissell PowerFresh Deluxe (1806), tied it at 82 in TechGearLab's test and is Reviewed's best traditional steam mop [src2, src3].

The value pick is the PurSteam 10-in-1: the best bang for the buck at Bob Vila and TODAY, the best overall in Yahoo's test, and Reviewed's best budget pick (Reviewed lists it as the PurSteam Therma Pro 211 and links the same Amazon listing) [src5, src4, src7, src3]. TechGearLab disagrees: it scored the PurSteam 59, 12th of 13 [src2], and its review of the PurSteam found it struggles to clean tile and stone [src14]. Two other detachable models have their own wins: the Bissell PowerFresh Slim 3-in-1 (2075A) is TODAY's best overall and Bob Vila's best for tile, and the Hoover Steam Complete Pet is Reviewed's best for tile floors [src4, src5, src3].

For deep cleaning beyond floors, the Dupray Neat canister had the highest cleaning score in TechGearLab's test and wins its heavy-duty award, and the McCulloch MC1385 canister holds the most water; both take minutes, not seconds, to heat [src2]. The Dupray Neat was recalled in February 2026 because its boiler can rupture; affected owners get a free safety cap [src12, src13]. For one-pass cleaning, the Tineco Floor One S9 Artist Steam vacuums, mops and steams without a cord and is Reviewed's best overall steam mop; BGR's main complaint is its price [src3, src9, src10].

Two models are worth knowing about because the testers say to skip them. Consumer Reports puts the Shark Steam Pocket S3501 at the very bottom of its steam-mop ratings, and Reviewed tested it and would not recommend it, so it is no longer a pick here [src1, src3]. TechGearLab's complaints are few attachments, no water-level indicator and a head that makes baseboards harder to clean [src2]. Bob Vila's tester used it against six other mops and rated it best overall and 9/10: it cleaned dried pasta sauce and apple juice in a few passes on high steam and was one of the easiest to maneuver around toilets and under cabinet overhangs, but at 6.2 lb it feels heavy on stairs and it has no detachable handheld steamer [src5, src6]. Yahoo's tester picks it for large areas for its high water capacity and larger cleaning head [src7].

Its body detaches into a handheld steamer, which Bob Vila uses on carpets, garments, windows and glass [src5]. The dissent is TechGearLab's: 59, 12th of 13, with heavy debris, a short cord and mediocre maneuverability as its cons [src2]. TechGearLab's review of the PurSteam finds it does well on laminate and vinyl but struggles to clean tile and stone, where its pad tends to catch on rough spots such as undissolved mud, and cleaning dirt and ketchup took a few extra passes [src14].

The Neat had the highest cleaning score in its test (9.4), with one of the largest water tanks in the class (1,600 ml) on a wheeled canister and an array of swappable accessories; the trade-offs are an 8-minute heat-up, a mop head that pivots only side to side, and pads that soil quickly [src2]. Family Handyman's testers scored it 4 of 5 on tile and grout, 5 of 5 on muddy vinyl, called it the "gold standard" for coffee stains on upholstery, and judged it one of the greatest values among steam cleaners [src8]. The caution is a safety recall: in February 2026 Dupray and the CPSC recalled about 651,145 Neat units (model DUP020WNA, batch/date codes 0118-01 through 0425-05) because the boiler can rupture; the CPSC lists 15 reports of boiler ruptures, including four reports of minor burns, bruises, lacerations and a broken wrist. Vacuum Wars scored it 151 points in its dried-on-stain test against a 140-point average, measured 0.4 g of water left on the floor against a 1.0 g average, and ran it 75 minutes on low power against a 35-minute average; at 6,148 g (13.5 lb) it was the second-heaviest machine Vacuum Wars compared [src9].
