Tom's Guide's lab found it the fastest tablet on its kids list and measured 11 hours 25 minutes of web browsing; CNN Underscored got a little over 11 hours of looping video. It has the App Store's range of children's apps and will last into the early teens. Its costs are the price and the fragility: TechRadar notes it is the most expensive tablet on its list, Tom's Guide recommends a rugged case, and CNN points out that it has no multiple user profiles. Amazon's Fire Kids tablets hold the value, budget and older-kids picks, because the guides keep choosing them for what an iPad lacks: a kid-proof case, a 2-year worry-free guarantee under which Amazon replaces a broken tablet, a year of Amazon Kids+, and parental controls built for children. The Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids (2023) is the value pick: Android Central's best overall, Tom's Guide's best for young children and CNN's choice for the most bang for your buck, with the longest battery life in Tom's Guide's test. The Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids (2024) is the budget pick: CNN's best affordable tablet for kids and Yahoo Tech's best tablet for kids. The Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids Pro (2023) is the pick for ages 6 to 12: Mother & Baby's and Mumsnet's best overall, and the older-kids pick at Tom's Guide and Android Central. The catch is that Amazon has stopped making them. On 2026-10-08 Amazon announced Android-based tablets to replace the Fire line and told CNBC that production of new Fire units has ended, while existing Fire tablets stay supported. When we checked on 2026-10-10, Amazon's listings for all five Fire Kids tablets on this card showed them as currently unavailable, so Amazon no longer sells them. They stay on the card because the reviews have not changed; that is a note about where to buy, not a change to the ranking. If you find one new at another store, CNN reports Amazon's promise of security updates until at least four years after a Fire tablet is last available on its websites. [src12, src8]

Amazon's replacements, the Amazon Kids Tablet 8 (from $229.99) and Kids Tablet 11 (from $329.99), run Android with parent-approved access to Google Play, and keep the kid-proof case and the year of Kids+, but come with a 1-year limited warranty in place of the Fire Kids tablets' 2-year worry-free guarantee. What changed since the last version of this card: the budget pick moves from the Fire 7 Kids to the Fire HD 8 Kids, which CNN and Yahoo Tech both name as the affordable pick, while the Fire 7 Kids is picked only by two British guides. The Fire HD 10 Kids Pro becomes the pick for older kids and the iPad mini (A17 Pro) joins the card. The Samsung Galaxy Tab A11+ Kids Edition has left it: no guide we read has tested it, and Android Central's kids guide still picks the older Galaxy Tab A9 Plus Kids Edition. [src3] Its 7-inch 1024x600 screen, quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage (expandable to 32GB) are modest, there is no Google Play, and it is much less useful without a LeapFrog Academy subscription, of which three months are free. [src3] It has an 11-inch 90Hz screen, a MediaTek Helio G88, 4GB of RAM, 64GB or 128GB of storage, four speakers and water and dust resistance, but no rugged body, a stylus sold separately, and performance that lags in demanding games.
