TL;DR
Top pick: ASTR The Label Blythe Plisse Midi ($119.99 on Amazon, down from $228 retail) — The Knot's #1 overall, pleated midi for semi-formal/cocktail.
Best value: Birdy Grey Isla ($99) — only sub-$100 consensus pick, 70 solids + 11 florals.
Best black-tie value: Adrianna Papell Beaded Mermaid ($195.01) — the cheapest true floor-length beaded gown here.
Best splurge: Reformation Anaiis Silk ($398). [src1, src5, src14]
Summary
The 2026 wedding-guest dress landscape is defined by a clear shift toward more formal silhouettes and a richer, more saturated color palette than 2025. The ASTR The Label Blythe Floral Plisse Midi Dress is The Knot's overall best pick — a versatile pleated midi that fits semi-formal and cocktail dress codes — and it has fallen to $119.99 on Amazon (default colorway/size) from the $228 brand retail the spring guides quoted, which makes it the single best price-to-formality ratio in this comparison right now. The Lulus Floral Ruffled Tiered Maxi ($118) still leads the formal tier under $150, and the Reformation Anaiis Silk Dress ($398) remains the consensus splurge pick across multiple publications. For black-tie events, the Adrianna Papell Beaded Mermaid Gown is now the value answer at $172.89 (was quoted $315-$400 through spring), with Mac Duggal brocade gowns ($798) as the statement option. [src1, src5, src8, src14]
Eight trends define 2026 wedding-guest dressing per The Knot: capes, matching chiffon scarves (Grace Kelly-inspired), drop waists (1920s revival), pastel "gelato" shades, jacquard fabric, column silhouettes (Jackie Kennedy minimalism), ruffle details, and pleated/plissé skirts. Spring and summer led with butter yellow and Pantone's "Cloud Dancer" neutral; as of mid-August the season has turned, and The Knot's fall 2026 guide moves the palette to rich orange, purple and black plus jewel tones — emerald, sapphire, ruby — in satin and velvet, with puff sleeves and burnout velvet as the season's silhouette cues. [src2, src6, src10]
Two facts decide more outcomes than style does. First, size and colorway are the SKU: every price below is the list price for one named size/colorway, and the Amazon picks are parent listings whose children price differently. Second, returns and alterations, not sticker price, are where guests get burned — Lulus moved to a 30-day window on 2026-08-03 (it was 21 days) with a $5.95 return fee, Birdy Grey charges $12-$15 to return, Final Sale is non-returnable at Lulus, Birdy Grey and Reformation, and hemming a maxi averages ~$139 in the US in 2026. [src11, src12, src13]
The single most important rule remains unchanged: never wear white, ivory, cream, or champagne. Pale silver, ice blue, and very pale yellow/blush also frequently read as white in flash photography — choose more saturated versions or pick a different color family entirely. [src7]

All prices verified 2026-08-11. The Priced configuration column names the exact size/colorway the price is for — on Amazon these are parent listings whose children price differently by size and color, and on the DTC sites the price shown is the list price before any promo code.
Not in the price: alterations (US 2026 average ~$139 to hem a maxi, $100-$400 to take in a bodice, $10-$75 for a simple hem/strap/zipper), and return shipping where it applies — $5.95 at Lulus, $12-$15 at Birdy Grey, a per-order fee at Reformation. [src11, src12, src13]
Best for Each Use Case
Best Overall: ASTR The Label Blythe Floral Plisse Midi Dress ($119.99) — Check price
The Knot's #1 overall pick for 2026 summer weddings, and as of 2026-08-11 it sells for $119.99 on Amazon's default colorway/size against a $228 brand retail — a genuine end-of-season markdown rather than a permanent repricing, so treat it as time-limited. Pleated plissé fabric flatters most body types, the V-neck and strappy cutout back are flattering without being too revealing, and the four cheerful floral colorways cover spring through early fall events. Pleating is one of 2026's defining trends per The Knot's trend report. Available in regular sizing on Amazon; the listing is a parent ASIN, so confirm the price on the size and colorway you actually select. [src1, src2, src14]
Best Formal Under $150: Lulus Floral Ruffled Tiered Maxi Dress ($118) — Check price
The Knot's top formal pick for under $150, and still $118 at Lulus as of 2026-08-11 — the "under $150" framing holds. Tiered ruffles hit two 2026 trends at once (ruffles + maxi length), and the colorways (green, yellow, light blue, and a new navy floral added for fall) all avoid the white/ivory danger zone. Lulus runs slightly small in the bust — order one size up if between sizes. Returns: 30 days on orders placed 2026-08-03 or later (21 days before that), $5.95 return fee, and Final Sale colorways are non-returnable. [src1, src11]
Best Black-Tie Statement: Mac Duggal Strapless Brocade Gown ($798) — Check price
The Knot's spring 2026 black-tie pick and a Who What Wear standout. Listing change 2026-08-11: the Black/Gold hi-low brocade ASIN this card previously linked has gone "Currently unavailable" on Amazon, so this row now points at the live Mac Duggal strapless brocade gown in Pastel Multi ($798, size 4 child ASIN, in stock and Amazon buy-box). Brocade is on the official 2026 trend list — jacquard/brocade fabric was identified by The Knot as one of the year's eight defining wedding-guest trends. Strapless bodice, full sweeping A-line skirt, functional side pockets. Note that Pastel Multi is a spring/summer palette; for a fall or winter black-tie event the Adrianna Papell below is the better-looking and far cheaper answer. [src2, src3, src14]
Best Beaded Black-Tie: Adrianna Papell Beaded Mermaid Gown ($172.89) — Check price
The most-cited beaded black-tie option in 2026 plus-size and standard guides, and the biggest price move on this card: it now sells at $172.89 (Amazon buy-box, in stock, 4.0 stars from 30 ratings) against the $315-$400 range quoted through spring. That makes it the cheapest genuine floor-length beaded gown here by a wide margin. All-over hand beadwork on mesh, mermaid silhouette with floor-length hem, available in Sterling, Blue Heather, Biscotti, and Midnight. Sizes 0-24W, including extended/plus. Heavy (~3-4 lb) — comfort drops after ~6 hours of wear, and a mermaid hem is the hardest silhouette on this card to alter, so order the size that fits your hips and have the bodice taken in ($100-$400) rather than the reverse. [src4, src13, src14]
Best Splurge: Reformation Anaiis Silk Dress ($398) — Check price
Cited by both The Knot and Who What Wear as the consensus splurge pick, and still $398 in the US as of 2026-08-11 (Reformation geo-prices its site, so a non-US IP will show a different currency and number). 100% silk charmeuse, high neck with cross-strap back, sage green Tarragon colorway. Reformation runs notoriously small in the bust — most reviewers recommend sizing up. Returns are 30 days with a per-order return-shipping fee, waived for in-store returns and loyalty members; Final Sale items cannot be returned. Will earn invites for years; ages well as a closet staple. [src1, src5]
Best Semi-Formal/Cocktail: Birdy Grey Isla Midi Dress ($99) — Check price
The Knot's "affordable" pick, confirmed in stock at $99 across XXS-3XL on 2026-08-11. 70 solid colors and 11 floral patterns — likely the widest color range in this comparison. Matte satin, midi-length column silhouette, square neckline. Birdy Grey is technically a bridesmaid brand but the Isla has been adopted as a guest staple since 2024. Two things to plan for: the site sells standard vs rush production as separate options at the same $99, so pick rush if your wedding is inside the standard lead time; and returns are 30 days but cost $12-$15 in US return shipping, with swatches, personalized and final-sale items non-returnable. Avoid the white colorway (it's a "little white dress" SKU) at someone else's wedding. [src1, src12]
Best for Beach/Casual Wedding: Abercrombie & Fitch Julia Slip Halter Maxi ($130) — Check price
The Knot's "cocktail summer" pick, but the slip silhouette and lightweight satin make it the strongest option for beach and destination weddings. The plunging halter and open back keep it cool in heat; the printed pink colorway reads vibrant in sunlight (avoid the French blue if photos will be at midday — it can read pale on flash). $130 is the full-price list; Abercrombie runs several older Julia slip maxi colorways on clearance from roughly $30, so check the clearance grid before paying list — but clearance colorways sell down to broken size runs fast. [src1]
Best Plus-Size Formal: ELOQUII Satin Puff Sleeve Pleated Dress ($109.99) — Check price
The Knot's top formal pick for plus sizes (14-32), $109.99 in stock on 2026-08-11 for size 16 in Black Onyx — a genuine bargain for a satin formal at this size range, and no size surcharge on the sizes stocked through this listing. Satin with dramatic puff sleeves, faux wrap bodice, and pleated skirt — hits both the puff-sleeve and pleated trends simultaneously. Estate Blue and Black Onyx are the safest year-round colors; the Magenta drop reads especially well in fall lighting. Bodice is lined, skirt is not — wear a slip if the venue is bright. [src4, src14]
Best Inclusive Sizing 0-16: Petal & Pup Naira Pleated Maxi Dress ($119) — Check price
9 colors, sizes 0-16 (the widest standard-tier range here). Pleated maxi silhouette on-trend for 2026. The sunset shade was specifically highlighted by The Knot. Listing change 2026-08-11: the previously linked ASIN no longer resolves, so this row now points at the live Naira listing — $119 for Black in size 0, against a $129 list, in stock with a 3.9-star average from 131 ratings. Petal & Pup runs slim in the waist — measure carefully. [src4, src14]
Best Embellished Under $150: Lulus Pearl Strapless Maxi Dress ($128) — Check price
Sheer mesh with clear sequins, metallic trim, and faux pearls. Strapless straight neckline, column skirt with kick pleat, 4.2 stars from 61 Lulus reviews and reported true to size. $128 list on 2026-08-11 (Lulus routinely stacks a promo code on top). Pearl details are part of the broader "elevated formality" trend at affordable price points. Light blue is the safest colorway (saturated enough to avoid white-photo confusion) — and note that a strapless mesh column is the one dress here that a tailor cannot easily take in without disturbing the beading, so size to your natural waist. [src3, src13]
Best Floral Midi-Maxi: Petal & Pup Hilary Pleated Maxi ($119) — Check price
A The Knot spring 2026 pick with pleated detail, off-shoulder design, and floral print across pink, red, brown, and garden colorways. Pleating is a 2026-defining trend per The Knot. Stocked on Amazon in multiple colorways at $119, unchanged since the last check. [src3, src14]
Best Satin A-Line Gown: BHLDN Amelia Deep-V Flutter-Sleeve Satin A-Line Gown ($248) — Check price
The Knot's plus-size formal pick — and it carried straight into The Knot's fall 2026 guide as "Best Formal," listed there at $220 against the $248 Anthropologie list, so an Anthropologie promotion is live. Available in sizes XXS-3X across 10 colors (sage green is the editor highlight). Draped bodice, flutter sleeves, A-line skirt — flatters most body types. BHLDN is Anthropologie's own bridal line, so anthropologie.com is the brand's site rather than a third-party retailer; individual colorways do sell out and revert to a "notify me" button, so check your color before committing. Returns: 30 days for a full refund to the original payment method. [src4, src10]
Head-to-Head Comparisons
ASTR Blythe Plisse Midi vs Lulus Floral Ruffled Tiered Maxi
These two are now within $2 of each other ($119.99 vs $118), so the choice is purely dress code, not budget. The ASTR Blythe is a pleated midi that reads semi-formal/cocktail; the Lulus Floral Ruffled is a tiered maxi that reads formal. The ASTR is more versatile across event types and, at its current markdown, the better value per wear; the Lulus is the better choice when the invitation specifically says formal. Practical tiebreaker: the ASTR ships on Amazon's 30-day apparel returns with no return fee, while a Lulus return costs $5.95. [src1, src11, src14]
Pick ASTR Blythe if: the wedding is semi-formal or cocktail, or you want one dress that works across multiple events.
Pick Lulus Floral Ruffled if: the dress code is formal and you want maxi length under $150.
Birdy Grey Isla vs Reformation Anaiis Silk
This is the budget-vs-splurge axis. The Birdy Grey Isla ($99) wins on price and color choice (70 solids + 11 florals) and is genuinely formal-adequate in matte satin. The Reformation Anaiis ($398) wins on fabric (100% silk charmeuse), longevity, and sustainability transparency — it ages into a closet staple. Both charge for returns, so the real cost gap is roughly $99 + $13 versus $398 + a per-order fee. [src1, src5, src12]
Pick Birdy Grey Isla if: budget is under $100 or you need a specific color match to an event palette.
Pick Reformation Anaiis if: you want one investment piece for years of weddings and care about silk over satin.
Mac Duggal Brocade Gown vs Adrianna Papell Beaded Mermaid
Both are black-tie floor-length statements, and the gap between them widened sharply this cycle: the Mac Duggal is $798, the Adrianna Papell is now $172.89 — a 4.6x difference for two gowns that both read black-tie in photographs. The Mac Duggal is a strapless brocade A-line with a full sweeping skirt and pockets, currently only live in a Pastel Multi colorway, which is a spring/summer palette. The Adrianna Papell is an all-over beaded mermaid — classic, in stock, and available through 24W extended sizing. At today's prices the Adrianna Papell is the default recommendation and the Mac Duggal is a deliberate splurge on brocade specifically. [src2, src3, src4, src14]
Pick Mac Duggal if: you specifically want the 2026-trend brocade statement, the event is spring or summer, and the budget genuinely allows $798.
Pick Adrianna Papell if: you want classic beaded glamour, extended sizing, a fall/winter-appropriate palette, or simply the best black-tie gown per dollar on this card.
ELOQUII Puff Sleeve Pleated vs BHLDN Amelia A-Line
Both are the most-cited plus-friendly formal picks. The ELOQUII ($109.99) is the value leader — a satin puff-sleeve formal under $115 in sizes 14-32. The BHLDN Amelia ($248 list, $220 in The Knot's current fall listing) costs more but spans XXS-3X (so it works for standard sizes too) and adds 10 colorways with a draped flutter-sleeve silhouette, plus Anthropologie's 30-day full-refund window. [src4, src10]
Pick ELOQUII if: you want the lowest-cost dedicated plus formal and need true plus sizing (14-32).
Pick BHLDN Amelia if: you want broader color choice, sizing that crosses standard-to-plus, or a flutter-sleeve A-line look.
Amazon-sold picks vs DTC brand sites
Half this card ships from Amazon and half from the brand's own store, and the difference is operational, not aesthetic. Amazon listings are parent ASINs — the price you see is for one child size/colorway and can move when you change either — but they carry free 30-day apparel returns and next-day delivery, which matters when the wedding is inside two weeks. DTC sites price one size range consistently and show real stock per size, but charge to return ($5.95 Lulus, $12-$15 Birdy Grey, per-order at Reformation), mark sale colorways Final Sale, and — at Birdy Grey — sell standard versus rush production as a lead-time choice. [src11, src12, src14]
Pick an Amazon-sold dress if: the wedding is under ~14 days away, or you want to order two sizes and return one at no cost.
Pick a DTC brand dress if: you need a specific colorway matched to an event palette, need extended sizing the Amazon listing does not stock, or want the brand's own size chart and stock data rather than a marketplace parent listing.
Decision Logic
If dress code is black-tie
→ Floor-length only. Pick Adrianna Papell Beaded Mermaid ($172.89) first — at today's price it is the best black-tie gown per dollar on this card. Reformation Anaiis Silk ($398) for understated luxury, Mac Duggal Strapless Brocade ($798) for a spring/summer brocade statement. Avoid mini, midi, and high-low hems entirely. [src2, src3, src4, src14]
If dress code is formal (not black-tie)
→ Floor-length or dressy midi. Lulus Floral Ruffled Tiered Maxi ($118) under $150, Reformation Anaiis Silk ($398) for splurge, or BHLDN Amelia A-Line ($248) when you need XXS-3X in one style. Satin and silk read more formal than cotton or linen. [src1, src3, src4]
If dress code is semi-formal or cocktail
→ Midi or elevated mini. ASTR The Label Blythe Floral Plisse Midi ($119.99), Birdy Grey Isla ($99), or Petal & Pup Hilary Pleated ($119). Pleating + floral hits two 2026 trends simultaneously. [src1, src2]
If dress code is beach or casual
→ Lightweight breathable maxi or midi. Abercrombie Julia Slip Halter Maxi ($130) in cotton or chiffon. Avoid heavy beading, structured fabrics, and floor-length trains (they drag in sand). [src1, src5]
If unsure of dress code
→ Default to formal midi or maxi in a saturated jewel tone. The ASTR Blythe ($119.99) or Birdy Grey Isla ($99) work for everything semi-formal through formal. Adding a wrap or jacket lets you adjust formality on arrival. [src1]
If the wedding is this fall (September-November)
→ Rich orange, purple, black and jewel tones — emerald, sapphire, ruby — in satin or velvet, per The Knot's fall 2026 guide. From this card: Adrianna Papell Beaded Mermaid ($172.89, Midnight or Sterling), ELOQUII Satin Puff Sleeve Pleated ($109.99, Black Onyx or Magenta), Birdy Grey Isla ($99, any deep solid), or the new navy colorway of the Lulus tiered floral. Retire the butter-yellow and pastel picks that led spring — and skip the Mac Duggal Pastel Multi, which is the wrong palette for the season. [src10]
If wedding is in spring (March-May)
→ Pastels — pistachio, lemon, soft blush, lavender, "Cloud Dancer" — in chiffon, organza, mesh, or satin. Petal & Pup Hilary Pleated Maxi ($119) or Lulus Pearl Strapless ($128). Avoid heavy velvet/wool. [src2, src3]
If wedding is summer (June-August)
→ Floral prints + lightweight fabrics. Butter yellow, fire engine red, fresh greens, dusty blue, navy. ASTR Blythe Plisse ($119.99) and Lulus Floral Ruffled Tiered ($118) lead. Avoid satin in extreme heat — it shows sweat. [src1, src6]
If user is plus-size (14-32)
→ ELOQUII Satin Puff Sleeve Pleated ($109.99), BHLDN Amelia (XXS-3X, $248), or Adrianna Papell Beaded Mermaid (14W-24W, $172.89). Avoid Reformation and Lulus mainline (limited extended sizing). None of these three charges a documented surcharge for extended sizing on the configurations priced above. [src4]
If budget is under $100
→ Birdy Grey Isla ($99) is the only consensus-recommended option under $100 across major publications — but budget the $12-$15 Birdy Grey return fee if you are ordering blind on size, which pushes the real worst case over $100. Watch Lulus and Petal & Pup sales for additional sub-$100 finds in season. [src1, src12]
If the wedding is less than 14 days away
→ Buy from an Amazon-sold pick, not a DTC site. ASTR Blythe ($119.99), ELOQUII ($109.99), Petal & Pup Naira ($119) or Adrianna Papell ($172.89) ship fast on free 30-day returns, so you can order two sizes. Birdy Grey's rush production and Lulus/Reformation shipping windows plus a 2-3 week tailor queue do not fit inside two weeks, and any alteration at all is out of reach. [src12, src13, src14]
If the dress will need altering
→ Price the alteration before you choose the dress. US 2026 averages: ~$139 to hem a maxi, $100-$400 to take in a bodice or waist, $10-$75 for a simple hem, strap or zipper. Prefer a style you can take IN (the ELOQUII faux-wrap or the BHLDN A-line) over one you cannot (the Lulus pearl-embellished mesh column, or the Adrianna Papell mermaid hem). Never buy a Final Sale dress you intend to alter — altered items are non-returnable everywhere on this card even when the item itself is not Final Sale. [src11, src12, src13]
Key Market Trends (2026)
- The season has turned — it is mid-August, and fall wedding season starts now. The Knot's fall 2026 guide swaps the spring/summer palette for rich orange, purple and black plus jewel tones (emerald, sapphire, ruby), and moves fabric from chiffon and plissé toward satin and velvet, with puff sleeves and burnout velvet as the season's silhouette cues. Its fall picks skew a little pricier than spring's: Azazie Brianna Rust Maxi ($179) as best overall, BHLDN Amelia ($220) as best formal, Lulus Distinctive Charm ($89) as best cocktail. If your wedding is September or later, buy from the fall column of this card, not the spring one. [src10]
- Eight defining trends per The Knot: capes, matching chiffon scarves (Grace Kelly), drop waists (1920s), pastel "gelato" shades, jacquard fabric, column silhouettes (Jackie Kennedy minimalism), ruffles, and pleated/plissé skirts. Wedding-guest dressing has measurably skewed more formal year-over-year. [src2]
- Butter yellow + "Cloud Dancer" lead 2026 colors: Pantone named butter yellow as the year's breakout color. "Cloud Dancer" is Pantone's 2026 lead neutral but it's high-risk for guests — it can read as ivory. Sage green, burgundy, navy, and saturated jewel tones remain the safest year-round picks. [src6, src7]
- Jacquard searches surged 2025→2026: The Knot reports jacquard searches "skyrocketed" as guests gravitate toward more elevated, structured fabrics. Mac Duggal, Anthropologie, Revelry, and Rent the Runway lead the jacquard category. [src2]
- Matching scarves ("Grace Kelly" trend): Floating chiffon scarves in coordinating prints/shades emerged as a distinctly 2026 trend. Reformation, Abercrombie, and Lulus all released matched-scarf SKUs. [src2]
- Summer 2026 adds fringe, magnified florals, and shimmer: Who What Wear's June 2026 trend report names six dominant summer wedding-guest trends — scarf necklines, lace-trim details, magnified (oversized) floral prints, shimmer/sequin embellishment, romantic ruffles, and fringe. Fringe and macro florals are the newest additions since spring. [src9]
- Mid-tier brands closing on luxury feel: Birdy Grey ($99), Petal & Pup ($109-$139), and Lulus ($118-$128) now offer silhouettes and fabrics (satin, plissé, pearl-embellished) that visually compete with $300+ tier. The most cited bridge brand is Reformation ($278-$398) for those wanting one investment piece. [src1, src5]
- Plus-size selection has expanded sharply: BHLDN now sizes XXS-3X across 10 colors, ELOQUII's wedding-guest range has tripled since 2024, and Lane Bryant added formal sizing 12P-28. The 2024 complaint of "no plus options at black-tie" has largely closed. [src4]
- End-of-summer markdowns are real and they are the reason to buy in August. Two picks on this card have moved hard since the July check: the ASTR Blythe from $228 brand retail to $119.99 on Amazon, and the Adrianna Papell beaded mermaid from a $315-$400 quoted range to $172.89. Both are clearing spring/summer stock. The flip side is availability: the Mac Duggal Black/Gold hi-low brocade ASIN went "Currently unavailable" in the same window, and a Petal & Pup Naira listing stopped resolving. Occasion-wear listings turn over on a roughly monthly cycle — verify the exact size and colorway is in stock before you plan around it. [src14]
- Return terms are now a real differentiator. Lulus extended its window from 21 to 30 days for orders placed on or after 2026-08-03 while keeping a $5.95 return fee; Birdy Grey charges $12-$15 for US returns but honours a paid rush-production fee on the exchange; Reformation charges a per-order return fee waived for in-store, exchange and loyalty-member returns; Anthropologie/BHLDN gives 30 days to the original payment method and up to a year for store credit. Amazon's standard 30-day apparel returns remain the cheapest way to order two sizes. [src11, src12]
Important Caveats
- Prices fluctuate weekly, and size/colorway is the SKU. Every price here is verified 2026-08-11 for the configuration named in the comparison table. The Amazon rows are parent listings whose children price differently by size and color; the DTC rows are list prices before promo codes. Lulus and Petal & Pup routinely run 20-40% off. Reformation rarely discounts and geo-prices its site, so a non-US visitor will see a different currency and number than the $398 US list.
- Alterations and return shipping are not in any price on this card. Budget ~$139 to hem a maxi, $100-$400 to take in a bodice, $10-$75 for simple work, plus 2-3 weeks of tailor lead time; and $5.95 (Lulus), $12-$15 (Birdy Grey) or a per-order fee (Reformation) if the dress goes back. Final Sale items are non-returnable at Lulus, Birdy Grey and Reformation, and altered items are non-returnable everywhere — which is exactly the trap on a sale-tier occasion dress bought for a fixed date. - Individual colorways sell out faster than listings die. The BHLDN Amelia PDP is live but specific colors revert to a "notify me" button; several Abercrombie Julia slip maxi colorways are on clearance with broken size runs; and the Mac Duggal brocade is currently only live on Amazon in Pastel Multi. Confirm your color and size, not just the product.
- Color rules trump trend: White/ivory/cream/champagne avoidance overrides every 2026 trend. "Cloud Dancer" (Pantone 2026 neutral), pale yellow, and ice blue can read as bridal in flash photography — when in doubt, choose a more saturated version or a different color family.
- Sizing inconsistency between brands: Lulus, Petal & Pup, and Reformation tend to run small in the bust. ELOQUII, Lane Bryant, and BHLDN size more generously. Order 2 sizes when possible, especially for formal events where alterations are time-sensitive.
- Dress code interpretation varies regionally: "Cocktail" in the Northeast trends more formal than in California. When the invitation says "festive" or "garden-party formal," default toward a midi rather than a mini.
- Sustainability claims vary: Reformation publishes lifecycle data; Lulus and Birdy Grey do not. If sustainability is a priority, Reformation and BHLDN are the strongest cited options.
