Portable dishwashers come in two kinds. Rolling portables are full-height dishwashers, 18 or 24 inches wide, that roll to the sink, clamp onto the faucet and drain into the sink, then roll away and double as counter space. Countertop models sit beside the sink and hold far fewer dishes; some fill from the faucet, others from a built-in water tank you pour by hand. [src2, src6]

Rolling: the GE pair. Reviewed tested both GE portables and found them cleaning like installed dishwashers: 98.5% of test stains on Normal and almost 99% on Heavy, with dry dishes, which portables often fail to deliver. Its complaints are water use (it estimates over 1,394 gallons a year, against under 577 for a typical installed dishwasher) and only three cycles. Wirecutter recommends the same two models, mainly because their hoses retract into the cabinet instead of wrapping around clips on the back; it notes the faucet clamp does not fit many faucets and that some owners say the 18-inch racks don't hold many dishes. Other rolling portables. Wirecutter tested the Danby DDW1805EWP and found it a decent dishwasher but a step backward: its hose wraps around plastic clips, which broke after two uses, and its first test unit arrived badly damaged. Reviewed still lists it as a low-priced way to try a portable, with the same warning about the clips. Wirecutter believes Danby, RCA and SPT rolling portables are built by the same manufacturer, Midea. The SPT SD-9263W, which this card used to point to as an in-stock rolling unit, is no longer a pick: Reviewed lists it from owner reviews and specifications, and Wirecutter calls it a carbon copy of the Danby 18-inch that it has not yet tested. Countertop. Reviewed's lab tested five countertop models: the Danby DDW631SDB was best overall (about 96% of stains in 100 minutes) and the tank-fed Farberware FDW05ASBWHA best at cleaning (over 99%), while the BLACK+DECKER BCD6W cleaned comparably and looked best. America's Test Kitchen bought six: its favorite was the tank-fed COMFEE' Mini Plus, with the Farberware also Highly Recommended, and the BLACK+DECKER the best of four faucet-fed models that it found nearly identical and that held about four place settings each, though some are sold as 6-place. The Euhomy countertop and the 5-liter COMFEE' Portable Mini have left the card: none of the outlets we read tested them. [src3, src6]

A 24-inch rolling dishwasher for 12 place settings, and the portable Reviewed rates highest: in its lab it cleaned 98.5% of the test stains on Normal, over 92% on the quick cycle and almost 99% on Heavy, and only one or two dishes in a full load were not bone-dry. Reviewed's complaints are water use, which it estimates at over 1,394 gallons a year, and a short cycle list (Heavy, Autosense, Light, plus Sanitize and a temperature boost). Wirecutter names it, with the 18-inch GPT145SSLSS, as its top pick for the hose and faucet clamp that retract into the cabinet, but it could not test the 24-inch because the clamp would not fit; check that your faucet takes the adapter before you buy. Availability (checked 2026-10-11 and 2026-10-12): we found no Amazon listing for the stainless GPT225SSLSS on 2026-10-12, and Amazon's listing of the white GPT225SGLWW, the same design, had no purchasable offer in our last three US price checks, through 2026-10-11. GE's own store listed the GPT225SSLSS at $879 (regular $1,049) when we checked on 2026-10-12, and its product data did not mark the model obsolete. The same GE design, 18 inches wide, for 8 place settings. Reviewed calls it its second-favorite portable: in its lab it matched the 24-inch model's 98.5% on Normal and almost 99% on Heavy, and after a cycle almost everything was bone-dry; it carries the same high water use and short cycle list. Wirecutter recommends it alongside the 24-inch and notes that some owners say its racks don't hold many dishes, particularly big ones like pots. Best Countertop: Danby DDW631SDB — Check price

Reviewed's best countertop dishwasher: it cleared about 96% of the test stains in 100 minutes, cleaning Reviewed compares to some full-size dishwashers, and its extra-drying option did a great job removing water, which most countertop models in that test struggled with. Its one con in Reviewed's test is spinach redeposit. It holds 6 place settings, connects to the faucet, and is Energy Star rated; NBC Select, which names it its best overall countertop model, lists eight wash cycles and 3.1 gallons of water per normal cycle. Best No-Hookup Countertop: Farberware FDW05ASBWHA — Check price

A small tank-fed dishwasher: fill its 5-liter reservoir and it runs anywhere with an outlet, or hook it to a faucet. Reviewed measured over 99% of its test stains removed, the best of its countertop test, and found it takes plates up to 12 inches across; its downsides there are 2 place settings and cycles about half an hour longer than most other countertop models it tested. America's Test Kitchen rates it Highly Recommended: easy to set up, with clearly marked controls, and it cleaned well, though ATK slightly preferred the COMFEE' Mini Plus. Best You Can Buy Today (low stock on Amazon when we checked on 2026-10-11): BLACK+DECKER BCD6W — Check price

America's Test Kitchen's best large countertop model: it washed well as long as the racks were not packed tightly, held just over four place settings rather than the six on the box, and was the only faucet-fed model in ATK's lineup with a Baby Care cycle; ATK liked its brushed-steel handle, child lock and 24-hour delay start. Reviewed found its cleaning comparable to the other countertop models, called it the best-looking, and flagged that it only takes plates up to 10 inches across. Bob Vila picks it as best overall. The tank-fed COMFEE' with a 6-liter tank (model Mini Plus) was America's Test Kitchen's best countertop dishwasher overall: very easy to use, it holds about two place settings, cleaned dishes well, and its door pops open at the end of the cycle so dishes come out drier. ATK doubts its UV setting sanitizes everything, because UV cannot reach shaded dishes. No other outlet we read tested it, and this link was not yet in our price checks. [src6]
