Samsung split its 2026 Fold into two phones at Unpacked on 2026-07-22, and the wider one, which launched $200 cheaper, is most outlets' favourite: Tom's Guide calls it "the best Android foldable for most people", Stuff its best foldable overall, Tech Advisor its best wide foldable and Android Central its best passport-style foldable, and CNET says it "has really won our hearts" over the Ultra. At 201g it is, in Tom's Guide's words, "the lightest book-style foldable in the world", and its 7.6-inch 4:3 inner screen suits video and reading. Tom's Guide calls the Galaxy Z Fold 8 "the best Android foldable for most people"; its reviewer says it "could be the new form factor to beat for foldables". Stuff names it the best foldable phone overall, Tech Advisor its best wide foldable and Android Central its best passport-style foldable, and CNET, choosing between Samsung's two 2026 Folds, says the squatter Fold 8 "has really won our hearts". [src1, src2, src3, src4, src5, src8] It is about the size of a passport: 201g and 9.7mm thick folded, with a 5.5-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch inner screen in a 4:3 ratio that Stuff calls "unbeatable for content consumption". Inside are the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and a 4,800mAh silicon-carbon battery with 45W wired charging, and it ships with Android 17 and One UI 9 with up to seven major OS updates. It lasted 12 hours 19 minutes in Tom's Guide's web-surfing battery test, nearly 1.5 hours longer than the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Its compromises are consistent across the outlets: there is no telephoto camera, only a 50MP main and a 50MP ultrawide; no S Pen support; no Qi2 magnets (CNET, Android Central); and an IP48 rating that guards only against dust particles larger than 1mm — Tom's Guide says "the lack of dust resistance at this point is getting annoying". In Tom's Guide's zoom test, its 3x digital zoom held its own against the Ultra's optical 3x, while the Ultra pulled ahead at 10x. Android Central names it its best premium foldable, Stuff its best traditional foldable, and CNET calls it "one of the slimmest, highest performing foldable phones around". Its weaknesses are the zoom, heat and price. Tom's Guide calls the telephoto "woeful", Android Central rates it "average at best", and Stuff says rivals beat it for battery and cameras; TechRadar's battery testing found its thin body and larger battery make it run "considerably hotter than all the competition". Best Flip Phone: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 — Check price

Android Central ranks the Galaxy Z Flip 8 the best foldable phone for most users, Tom's Guide names it the best flip foldable, and CNET, which scores it 8.6 out of 10, its best compact Samsung foldable and the "most powerful flip phone so far". [src1, src2, src3] US models switch back to a Qualcomm chip, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, after the Exynos 2500 in the Galaxy Z Flip 7. It weighs 180g, folds to 13.1mm and pairs a 6.9-inch inner screen with a 4.1-inch 120Hz cover screen that Android Central says is big enough for a full-sized keyboard, though running every app on it still takes Samsung's Labs or Good Lock settings. Battery life is the trade-off: Android Central calls it "just okay", CNET lists weaker battery life among its cons, and it still charges at 25W. The cameras are unchanged from the Flip 7 — a 50MP main and a 12MP ultrawide, with no telephoto — and Tom's Guide says it is so similar to last year's model that it is probably not worth upgrading from one. Tom's Guide names the Razr 2025 the best cheap foldable phone and calls it "a steal for $699". Tech Advisor names the same phone, sold outside North America as the Razr 60, its best-value foldable; GSMArena, which reviewed the US Razr 2025, describes the two as "essentially the same handset". [src1, src4, src26] It has a 6.9-inch 120Hz inner screen, a 3.6-inch cover screen, an IP48 rating and a 4,500mAh battery that lasted 13 hours 36 minutes in Tom's Guide's test. [src1, src22]

Its MediaTek Dimensity 7400X posts what Tom's Guide calls "subpar" benchmark scores, although in real-world use it "performs well enough", and Motorola gives it three years of software support. Best for Google AI and Software: Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold — Check price

Tom's Guide names the Pixel 10 Pro Fold the best AI foldable phone and Tech Advisor its best foldable for software, for fans of stock Android and Google's AI features; Stuff names it the best foldable for photography. [src1, src4, src5] It was the first foldable rated IP68 for dust and water, it has magnetic Qi2 charging built in, and it pairs Google's Tensor G5 with a 48MP main camera, a 10.8MP 5x telephoto and a 5,015mAh battery that lasted 12 hours 16 minutes in Tom's Guide's test. [src1, src4, src5, src17] Tom's Guide has also tested its successor and sees "not really much reason" to pay more for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, since the Pixel 10 Pro Fold "does all the same stuff for a lower price". It is not the fastest or the lightest: Tech Advisor found the Tensor G5 slower than Snapdragon rivals, which can hamper gaming, and at 258g it is the heaviest book-style phone on this card. Best Battery Life: Motorola Razr Ultra 2026 — Check price

The Razr Ultra 2026 lasted 16 hours 20 minutes in Tom's Guide's battery test, the longest of any foldable Tom's Guide has tested and ahead of the Razr Fold's 14 hours 44 minutes; Tom's Guide names it the best foldable for battery life. Android Central, which names it the best cover display among foldables, says its "all-day battery life is well above average" and that it "simply aced all our tests". [src1, src2, src27] It has a 5,000mAh battery with 68W wired and 30W wireless charging, a 7.0-inch 165Hz inner screen, a 4.0-inch 165Hz cover screen, the Snapdragon 8 Elite, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The catches are price and age. Tom's Guide calls its Snapdragon 8 Elite "now two generations old" and notes a $200 price rise over last year's Ultra, and Android Central would like longer software support than three years of OS updates (it gets five years of security updates). Best for Productivity and Pen Input: Motorola Razr Fold — Check price

Motorola's first book-style foldable is Tech Advisor's best foldable overall, Android Central's best-designed foldable and Stuff's best foldable for productivity, largely for its stylus support. [src2, src4, src5] It works with the Moto Pen Ultra, which 9to5Google reports costs $99 on its own in the US and Android Central lists as sold separately; Tom's Guide notes that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra has no S Pen, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 has no digitizer either. [src1, src2, src8, src31] Its 6,000mAh battery lasted 14 hours 44 minutes in Tom's Guide's test, longer than the Fold 8 Ultra's 14 hours 33 minutes, and in TechRadar's doomscrolling test it drained more slowly than the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra and Pixel 11 Pro Fold, though the Oppo Find N6 and Honor Magic V6 drained more slowly still; it charges at 80W wired and 50W wireless. Its Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is a step below the Elite chips in Samsung's Folds — Tech Advisor lists "performance isn't cutting-edge" among its cons — and at 243g and 10.1mm folded it is, in Tech Advisor's words, "relatively bulky"; Stuff found its crease more noticeable than rivals'. It is rated IP48/IP49. Motorola launched it at $1,899 with 512GB, and Motorola's US store listed it at $1,699.99, down from $1,899.99, when we checked on 2026-10-13. CNET also finds its cameras and battery a step down from the other Pixel 11 Pro models and its crease more prominent without an anti-reflective coating, and Tom's Guide calls it "a new-ish phone" that is not worth the extra over the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
